Care experience of intensive care unit nurses caring for DNR patients
Soun Eun-Jin

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to explore the essential structure of the DNR(Do Not Resuscitate), decision process and the caring experience in the process of caring for patients in the intensive care unit who care for DNR patients.

Method : Through Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological approach, this study extracted 13 nurses who had experience in nursing DNR patients and had worked in the intensive care unit for more than a year in the intensive care unit using the objective expression method. Subjects were derived from collection and analysis.

Result : Participants reported moral anguish, including the topic of ethical dilemma due to the lack of standardized regulations in the process of determining DNR status and subsequent nursing roles, and emotional confusion due to family shaking.

Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a program that can support the emotional conflicts and difficulties experienced by intensive care unit nurses caring for DNR patients and to provide specific nursing education for DNR care. In addition, I believe that it is necessary to establish specific guidelines to make DNR more systematic and rational, and at the same time, systematic guidelines for DNR are needed.
